Cookies For Breakfast

Some of you may know that in our family, Jason does the grocery shopping. This is a situation for which I try to be grateful without dwelling on my lack of homemaking skills. But seriously, the grocery store freaks me out. It's like an all-out assault of decision-making scenarios complete with a produce section and a sushi counter. I get the heebie-jeebies just thinking about it...

So Jason goes to the store. He normally takes Joshua with him on a Saturday morning and they have a lovely time, always making the obligatory stop at the bakery for a free cookie. Joshua is well aware of this tradition and if you try to leave the store with out acquiring the c-o-o-k-i-e as we like to spell it in our house, Joshua will look up at you with big blue eyes from his perch on the shopping cart and say sweetly, "Cookie?" Honestly now, could you say no to that. Upon arriving at that bakery, if the cookies are not sitting out in their usual spot and no one appears to be working behind the counter, Jason will find a box of cookies similar to the ones they usually give out and open it. He will take a cookie for Josh and place the opened container where the cookies should normally be lest another parent should face the similar fate of a salivating, Pavlovian child. This is a practice that Jason assures me is encouraged by the faithful employees of the local Price Chopper. Now that you know the lengths Jason will go to put sweets in Joshua's hands, I would like to tell you a story.
Lately, Jason has been waking up early on Saturday mornings and doing the grocery shopping before Joshua wakes up. Because of this, they have missed their weekly cookie runs. The other day, Jason came home from the store with a box of cookies as Joshua and I were sitting down to breakfast. He promptly (before I could intervene) gave Joshua two cookies and responded to my open-mouthed stare by saying, "I feel bad that he is not getting his cookie at the store." Never mind that Josh was completely happy at the moment. Never mind that Josh had not asked for or even seen the cookies. Surely he must be missing his Price Chopper bakery cookie. Or perhaps, Daddy was missing his little shopping buddy. You decide. I know what I believe.

I feel these pictures accurately capture the moment as it is obvious that Josh is wearing pajamas. I particularly like the way the morning sun glints off the blue M&M candy piece embedded in the cookie. I can only hope that his sippy cup at least has milk in it.

I especially like the first picture where Josh looks like he is entering a sugar coma. No worries though. He comes from a long line of people who enjoy eating pie for breakfast. Especially chocolate or republican pie.

Cold Stone is great too! I get Banana Carmel Crunch with fudge as an extra add on. I think that covers all the food groups.

I love reading your posts. I can almost hear you talking. You are such a good story teller. I think that Jason and Josh would fit right in with my kids and their love for EVERYTHING sweet.

Megs, I love you blog. It is a great outlet for your writing abilities. Do I see a future novel being written? I think so!
